Yarragon book fair this weekend

-

If you love books and want to contribute to a great cause, don’t miss the Yarragon Book Fair this weekend.

Bring family and friends along, grab a bargain and join the fun at Yarragon Public Hall.

Yarragon Fire Brigade secretary Geoff Conway said the 2018 Book Fair heralded a new partnership with Yarragon Primary School’s Parents’ Club.

“We are thrilled that the parents and students of Yarragon Primary School are joining our brigade members in this joint fundraising effort. They have already been helping with promotions and planning,” he said.

Mr Conway said any other interested volunteers from the general community are still very welcome to get in touch if they can lend a hand to help set up the hall in the next few days, emphasising “people don’t have to be involved in the CFA or the school to contribute - many hands make light work.”

Proceeds from the 15th Yarragon Book Fair will go towards important initiatives and equipment for both the brigade and local school students. In the past eight years, the book fair has contributed about $130,000 for local fire brigades and has helped ensure the success of volunteer firefighters in protecting life and properties across the region.

Funds raised average about $18,000 in recent years, peaking at $22,000 in 2014 and then $28,000 in 2017.

“It’s a great event and we simply want to encourage more people through the door to buy more books,” said Mr Conway. “The school community brings its own needs and we hope this event helps them out too.”

Doors open Saturday at 9am and the fair will run across the weekend until 4pm on Sunday.

The Yarragon Public Hall is in Campbell Street.

People can grab a bargain, with paperbacks and hard covers of every genre on sale across the weekend. Paperbacks will be $1, hard covers $2.50 and children’s books are $5 for a bag or box.
