Badminton skills put to test

-

The Mid Gippsland junior badminton competition was put on hold on Friday night with skilled players putting on a training session for the juniors.

Local badminton player Grace Hanratty, who has represented Victoria, joined skilled senior players Trent Hughes (section one Labertouche), Doug Evans and Ashley Hallahan (section one Warragul) to take the junior players through their paces.

The session began with two exhibition double games, the first game with Trent and Grace against Doug and Ashley with the former winning and a score of 12/7. The next game played began with Grace and Ashley winning but then Doug and Trent had a comeback and ended up winning with a score of 21/18.

After those matches the young players participated in some warm up games. They then split into four groups with one senior leader in each and played beat-the-champ and around-the-world, which allowed the leaders to see grips on the rackets and help them to assess and improve playing skills.

The evening was a definite success and improved the skills of all young players who participated in the training.

The Mid Gippsland Junior Badminton Association includes clubs from Warragul, Drouin, Labertouche and Ellinbank.

Anyone interested in joining badminton can contact Sandra Ottrey on 0438 582 921.
