-

Round 12 of the Warragul and District Junior Football League saw The Bulls and Bunyip junior football clubs play off for the inaugural Breast Cancer Network Australia Pink Sports Day Cup with Bulls taking home the cup with two out of three wins.

It was the fourth year the clubs have met to raise money for BCNA, with Saturday’s fixture raising $500.

This week there are no games in the WDJFL as interleague players and families head to Sale to participate in five games over two days, with the final to be played on Sunday.

Interleague draw and updates are available on the website http://bit.ly/2018Interleague. Buln Buln v Colts Under 10 It was a bitter and rainy morning but that did little to dampen the enthusiasm of both teams as they got into the tackles from the centre bounce.

It was close all through the match with Buln Buln able to come away with the win. Under 12 It was slippery and muddy, making it hard for either team to move the ball freely down the field.

Buln Buln made use of a few break away plays and kicked a couple of goals to take the lead.

Points dominated the scoreboard for both teams as a reflection of the tough ground conditions. Under 14 Buln had the wind in the first quarter however their accuracy was off.

Colts used the wind advantage in the second quarter to get score on the board, but Buln took a strong lead in the third to eventually take out the win. Drouin Maroon v Ellinbank Under 10 A cutting wind pushed across the ground to no advantage to either side.

Drouin Maroon got the jump on the Ellinbank in the first quarter.

Ellinbank managed to supply a little more pressure on the second and third quarters to hold back Drouin’s great start and keep the score board nearly frozen. Maroon ran out victor in the end. Under 12 Both teams came out fighting with good pressure at both ends.

Drouin couldn’t get their running game going resulting in difficulties in scoring. Ellinbank made the most of their opportunities narrowly defeating Drouin. Drouin’s Jack Walsh played his 100th game. Under 14 Maroons tried their best to stick to their game plan and eventually came out winners in a low scoring game.

Ellinbank players Adam Campbell and Andrew Hickin played their 100th games. Hallora v Caldermeade Under 10 Caldermeade got a quick goal at the start of the game that had Hallora on their toes right from the get-go.

With amazing team work, pressure and successful tackles and a goal in the dying minutes of the last quarter, Hallora came away with the win.

Hallora’s Kaiden Walmsley played his 50th game. Under 12 With a cold wintery start to the game both teams came out with all cylinders firing.

Hallora kicked the first goal, with Caldermeade closely following with a goal.

It was a tight game with Hallora forging forwards in the end with the win.

Hallora’s Bella Walmsley and Cooper Wright played their 50th games. Under 14 Hallora were outgunned by Caldermeade on a wet and windy day for football.

An all-round team performance by Caldermeade bought up their second win for the season. The Bulls v Bunyip Under 10 Difficult conditions made for a scrappy contest.

To Bunyip’s credit, their pressure never dropped and they fought the game out to the end which showed in the amount of points scored by the Bulls.

The Bulls proved too strong and pushed away in the last quarter for a strong victory. Under 12 In what turned out to be the hardest conditions the players have had to face all year, Bunyip started well in the first quarter before a very accomplished Bulls side put the game beyond their reach in the second term.

Bunyip showed some glimpses of team footy in the second half but could not make any impression on the scoreboard. Under 14 Bunyip showed good teamwork against an undermanned Bulls side.

Bunyip were clear winners on the day with the Bulls working hard and not giving up under such horrid conditions. Warranor v Garfield Under 10 Garfield came out firing in the third quarter and kicked three unanswered goals, which was too much for Warranor to get back.

Garfield took the win in a friendly spirited game with plenty of support from the sidelines. Under 12 Warranor fought back in the third quarter to a very tight contest however Garfield were able to kick ahead in the final quarter, taking home the win. Under 14 The cold and wet conditions made it hard for both teams to keep hold of the ball.

Warranor had to fight hard against a strong Garfield defence.

The last half was neck to neck and low scoring but Garfield just came home with a very close and exciting win. Warragul Blues v Drouin Gold Under 10 A strong wind blowing to one end of the ground saw Blues get off to a good start, but Drouin Gold proved too strong in the end. Under 12 Drouin won the toss and kicked with a strong breeze in the first quarter.

The Blues defence did well with scores level at quarter time.

It was a tense struggle in the second half with Drouin running out winners by a goal. Under 14 In blustery conditions the Blues won the toss and got off to a fast start putting goals on the board early.

Drouin fought hard all game but could not stop the Blues.

Drouin Gold’s Liam Finnegan played his 100th game. Yarragon v Longwarry Under 10 Yarragon kicked away early in what was a tightly contested game with both teams playing well.

Longwarry’s teamwork saw them hit the lead and in an exciting finish but Yarragon kicked the last goal to take a narrow win. Under 12 Longwarry come out firing and dominated the game with both teams having to fight hard in very crisp conditions.

Strong play over the whole ground by both sides with Longwarry taking the win in the end. Under 14 Yarragon’s attack on the ball and use in tough conditions proved the difference in the second half, resulting in Yarragon taking the win.

Longwarry fought hard enough on the day. Yarragon’s Zak Keeble played his 50th game. Neerim District had the bye. but it was not
