Kangaroo’s ballet dream

-

A new musical about dreams, believing in yourself and a dancing kangaroo will offer family entertainment on Tuesday, July 10.

West Gippsland Arts Centre is presenting “Josephine Wants to Dance”, an Australian musical based on the hugely popular picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley, at Kernot Hall in Morwell. Two performances will be held at 10.30am and 1.30pm.

Perfect for young audiences aged four to nine years, this Monkey Baa work is a hilarious tale of a bush animal who won’t be forgotten.

Although her little brother says kangaroos don’t dance, Josephine continues to point her toes and leap through the air.

When a ballet troupe comes to the sleepy town of Shaggy Gully, Josephine learns that there is another way to dance – ballet. As the ballet company prepares to perform, Josephine sneakily watches rehearsals.

When the prima ballerina twists her ankle and the understudy has a splinter in her toe on the day of the first performance, Josephine’s talents are called upon to help save the day.

Can she do it and, more importantly, does it matter she’s a kangaroo?

Tickets are $27 for adults, $24 for concession, $23 for members, $15 for children under 15 and $65 for a family of four.
