St Paul’s students run for a cause
Students at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar junior school raised money for school facilities and for a garden kitchen for a school in Uganda from a school fun run recently.
Students raised more than $5000 to be put towards a school kitchen garden in Uganda through Beyond Subsistence, plus a shade sail over the school’s outdoor tennis table, bike racks to encourage more riding to school, and finish off some landscaping for a new play area for the students.
Louise Leighton said students had enjoyed setting their fundraising goals.
“Our students had been involving family and friends in their fundraising efforts to go towards school resources as they geared up for our fun run,” she said.
“We were lucky to have a sunny winters day and being the last day of term the children had an absolute ball, pushing themselves really hard to run for the whole half an hour.
“They were super proud of their efforts, many exceeding the goals they set.”
Parents, families, neighbours and local businesses offered their support and donations to the students, who were getting fit and having fun in the name of fundraising for their school.
School fun-runs help children learn about setting and achieving financial goals and establishing healthy habits that will stay with them throughout their lives.
In 2017, 50,558 students from Victoria raised more than $828,050.09 in an incredible effort that event organisers hope to beat this year.
Now in its 10th year of the program, school fun runs have raised more than $23 million and quite a few heart rates, encouraging students to get active for fundraising activities.
