Cats score by one point in U16s

Neerim-Neerim South came from behind to score a thrilling one-point win over Buln Buln in the under 16s.

The Lyrebirds made the early advantage and despite failing to score in the third term, entered the final change with a sevenpoint lead in attrocious conditions.

Buln Buln could only manage a minor score in the final term as the Cats charged home, scoring a goal to take the lead.

An intense battle to the finish ensued, the Lyrebirds pressing but the Cats defence able to hold up.

Late clearing kicks saw the Cats take the ball to the safety of their half forward line, the final siren sounding with the Cats up by one-point, 2-6 (18) to 2-5 (17).

Daly Taylor, Isaac Fuller, Reece Clarke, Matthew Peccoraro, Ayden Ramm and Tyler Joachim helped the undermanne­d Cats record victory against the odds.

Fynn Hammond, Jaiden McDougal, Drew Cahill, Paisarn White, Max Chesterfie­ld and Ray Smith kept pressing for the Lyrebirds.

Eagles kick away

Ellinbank comfortabl­y accounted for Warragul Industrial­s, 5-6 (36) to 2-2 (14).

The Eagles were in control for the majority of the contest, kicking away to a 28point lead at the final change.

Henry Tyers kicked his second goal in the final quarter as the match petered out.

Joseph Conley, Lewis Kennedy, Maverick Matheson, Kayne Cottier, Dean Swinburne and Jake Achilles helped the Eagles maintain control.

Harrison Perry, Xavier Ford, Lachlan Ridgway, Oliver Marek, Tyers and Lachlan Crook were the better players for the Industrial­s.

Crows challenged

Longwarry led Poowong from start to finish, but had to overcome a third quarter challenge from the Magpies.

Noah Peacock scored the only goal of the third term to reduce the margin to just three points, but the Crows finished strongest to win 3-7 (25) to 1-6 (12).

Bailey Osseweyer, Angus Adamiak, Bailey Stephens, Harrison Stephens, Sebastian Crowle and Liam Quarrell were the better players as the Crows kept the Magpies scoreless in the final term.

Tane Derrick, Brian Kelson, Alex Henshall, Zac Gray, Trent Kearney and Jordan Murphy helped Poowong mount a challenge.
