U18s buck trend with high scores

Under 18 matches in the Ellinbank District Football League bucked the trend with some high scores kicked despite the wintery conditions. Catani thumped Nyora 17-22 (124) to 0-1 (1). The Blues kicked six goals to no score in the first term and were never headed, the reigning premier in control against an undermanne­d Saints team battling in their first season back in the competitio­n.

Magpies kick away

Lang Lang continued its theme of hanging in early, but the dam wall was again quick to burst as Poowong kicked away to win easily, 17-17 (119) to 0-0 (0).

The Magpies led by 15-points at the first change, but were able to score freely from that point on.

Jai Derrick kicked four goals, while Lachlan De Kleuver and Joshua McNally each chipped in with three majors.

Jye Loughridge, Darcy Burgess and Jacksen Barlow also featured among the better players.

Jackson McDonnell, Cameron Stephenson, Griffin Shepherd, Chris Matser and Mason Koffman battled against the odds for Lang Lang.

Cats comfortabl­y

Neerim-Neerim South comfortabl­y accounted for Buln Buln, 9-9 (63) to 2-3 (15).

Ironically scoring was more free flowing as conditions worsened in the second half, the Cats booting six goals to the Lyrebirds’ two.

Cooper Clancy, JustinLock­ett (three goals), Adam White, Jackson Saunders, Christian Robertson-Edgar and Josh White helped the Cats maintain control.

Nicholas Huggett, Jack Storey, Bailey Wright, Mitchell Crole, Alex Hasan and Eric Ceron were the better players for Buln Buln.

Eagles hold advantage

Ellinbank comfortabl­y accounted Warragul Industrial­s, 6-4 (40) to 3-4 (22).

The Eagles kicked out to a three goal advantage at the final change, before both teams finished with two goals in a competitiv­e final quarter.

Lachlan Hedrick kicked three goals in a best afield effort, while Nicholas Matheson, Tyler Constantin­e, Ethan Stanley, Reece Kestle and Jason Pisa were also prominent for Ellinbank.

Riley Sheriff, Blake Kahan, Ryan Young, Ethan Winduss, Liam Harman-Dorney and Nick Elliott were the better players for the Industrial­s.
