Disco raises $500 for Variety Bash
Students at Warragul Primary School took the opportunity to give back when they donated to Variety Bash team the Pink Panthers recently.
With Warragul on the path for the Variety Bash last year, local team Elvis visited the school to donate Ipads to the students.
For students the annual junior school disco fundraiser offered an opportunity to give back to the Variety Bash, which this year will leave from Geelong and take in the Grampians, Mildura and Broken Hill before turning inland in Queensland for the run into Townsville.
With Pink Panthers team member David Rock donating his time as DJ, the $4 entry fee and proceeds from snacks and drinks raised an impressive $500 for the cause.
Mr Rock said this year’s Bash would see donations made in out of the way places that don’t often get recognition but are equally deserving.
“Last year the school was directly on the path of the Bash and had Ipads delivered by David Hobbs and his local car Elvis,” he said.
The Pink Panther team is made up of colleagues and friends from Yallourn power station and run three cars in the bash. The team raised $42,000 last year and is aiming to break the $50,000 mark this year.
“We pay for our own accommodation and travel cost, so all donations go straight to the charity,” Mr Rock said.
