Drouin account for spirited Bunyip

-

Drouin Dragons state teams traveled to Bunyip on Saturday in what is always a great game to watch between the two local state five soccer clubs.

The games were played in pretty ordinary weather with gusty wind and driving rain, which saw Bunyip Soccer Club putting the pitch lights on half way through the senior match.

The Reserves started off well with former Drouin Dragons Soccer Club president Daniel Brown playing in the back line before moving forward after half time.

Determination, a strong back line and speed through the middle and up forward saw the Dragons win four goals to two.

Full credit to the Bunyip Strikers Club for their pitch conditions with heavy rain throughout the day, but were never in any doubt of being called off.

Also having the heaters turned on in the change rooms were well appreciated by both teams on Saturday afternoon.

The Drouin Dragons seniors knew it was going to be a tough day against Bunyip Strikers. The speed and commitment was shown from both teams from the start of the match.

The handful of spectators who braved the weather conditions got to see a spirited match between the two senior teams with plenty of free kicks given away.

In the end Drouin Dragons got the better of Bunyip, winning four goals to two.

Drouin state teams play Endevour Hills this Saturday at home, while their Gippsland teams play at home on Sunday against Phillip Island.

Drouin Dragons Soccer Club are officially opening their new female friendly change rooms this Sunday at 11am at Bellbird Park.

The Baw Baw Shire mayor and councillors, Football Federation Victoria, Gippsland Soccer League representatives and club life members will be in attendance.

The canteen will be open from 9am.

Warragul into third

Warragul United moved to third on the state league one ladder with a 3-1 victory over the Eltham Redbacks.

A penalty allowed Thomas Ahmadzai to put Warragul on the board in the first half.

While Eltham scored a goal for themselves in the second half, two goals from Joel Baldwin delivered the result for Warragul.

While Manningham United and Richmond are runaway ladder leaders, Warragul United lead a determined pack hoping for a top four finish with just five points separating the local side in third to seventh-placed Malvern City.

Warragul also won the reserves, but in a much tighter match.

Oscar Sheehan scored in the first half and with neither side able to break through in the second half, Warragul scored an upset win over their third place rivals.

Warragul United reserves sit eighth on the ladder, three points clear of Manningham United.
