A win vital as Gulls storm towards finals

-

A finals-like atmosphere will greet Warragul’s A grade netballers when they play Maffra at Western Park on Saturday.

After years in the wilderness, the Gulls are in the hunt to play finals for the first time in many years.

When Warragul sat bottom of the ladder with no wins from 2014-16, it would have been hard to envisage this position. But they displayed steady improvement to finish sixth in 2017.

This season, the Gulls have won six of their past eight games and are storming towards September.

Warragul currently sit in sixth position on 32 points with a percentage of 93.20. Sitting in fifth spot are Maffra, also on 32 points with a percentage of 95.81.

As a result, the winner of this game will take fifth spot.

Maffra have the harder draw over the final two rounds, facing second placed Traralgon and fourth placed Moe.

Warragul will play ninth placed Sale and seventh placed Bairnsdale in the final two games.

Another “mini elimination final” will be played in B grade as fifth placed Warragul take on sixth placed Maffra. Again, the winner will be in the top five.

Due to the split round, only two games will be played this weekend in Gippsland League.

In the other game, Traralgon will play Moe.
