Commisioner to lead Drouin treaty discussion
Community members are encouraged to attend a morning tea in Drouin tomorrow that will explore the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians bill.
Victorian Treaty Commissioner Jill Gallagher is holding a morning tea tomorrow as part of the Treaty Roadshow and will lead discussions about the Treaty process in Victoria.
The event is co-hosted by Reconciliation Victoria, the Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission and Baw Baw Shire Council.
The free morning tea is part of a series of sessions hosted by the Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission to help inform communities across Victoria about what action is being taken regarding the Treaty process and the next steps to follow.
It is an opportunity for community members to meet with Jill and hear about the process and her role as commissioner, which involves setting up an elected independent body of traditional owners which will shape the next phase of the Treaty process.
The event aligns with Baw Baw Shire Council’s commitment to engaging with and building relationships between council and the local Aboriginal community.
The event is open to all community members and will be held at Middels restaurant, Drouin between 10.30am and 11.30am. For more information about the Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission, go to http://victreatyadvancement.org.au/
