An aerial photograph showing the Warragul Golf Course in the 1960s.

This view is from the corner of Sutton St and Pharaohs Rd.

The golf club purchased farmland to the north and extended the course. When the new clubhouse was built on Sutton St, the course was realigned. As a result, the first nine was renamed the back nine.

Many of the trees in the photograph remain today as a tribute to Roy Ross who was the instigator of the many botanical species of trees planted in the early years of the club.

Following last week’s Snapshot featuring Warragul District Hospital c.1918 attracted feedback from Yarragon resident Melva Risstrom.

The photograph captured the garden in the foreground of the hospital.

Melva has a photograph of her grandfather Thomas Davis standing under the same garden archway captured in the c.1918 photograph. However, due to increased flowers on the archway, it is believed her photograph dates c.1920.

Melva said her grandfather undertook voluntary work to maintain the hospital garden prior to his death in the early 1930s. He was a dairy farmer at Brandy Creek Rd and regularly brought flowers and strawberries into Warragul.
