Industrials prevail in under 16s
The Warragul Industrials and Longwarry Crows went blow for blow in an enthralling under 16s final that set the scene for some epic contests throughout the Ellinbank District Football League grand final day.
It would be the Industrials who would prevail in a tight contest, 6-6 (42) to 6-2 (38).
A strong mark at the top of the square gave the Crows the first goal, but the Industrials were quick to respond through a pair of inspirational goals from Luke Kinder.
Kinder positioned well behind his opponent having read the flight of the ball best to take a good mark in the pocket, with his resultant shot curving back nicely in the wind to put his team on the board.
Kinder was in the game again soon after, selling some candy to have two goals on the board for his team.
Matthew Kouris goaled on the quarter time siren to cut the margin to just two points at the first change.
The goal for goal nature of the contest continued in the seconf term.
Brendan Phillips went long for the Crows, with his shot shepherded through.
The Industrials again responded with consecutive goals, only for the Crows to again hit back late in the quarter.
A long shot early in the third saw the Crows take the lead, but the Industrials were able to respond straight away.
Another late goal gave the Crows a threepoint lead at the final change, but it would be the end of their run as they failed to score in the final term.
The Industrials scrambled a goal from the pack early in the final term to take the lead before defending well in a tense battle to hold on and win by just four points.
Brayden Hefford was awarded the best on ground medal. He had support from Harrison Perry, Ethan Storer, Kinder, Josh SmithButterworth and Darcy Whelan.
Sebastian Crowle, Bailey Osseweyer, Kouris, Harrison Stephens (three goals), Bailey Stephens and Angus Adamiak helped keep the Crows in the contest.
