-

Warragul netballer Renee Cook was last night named Gippsland League’s A grade best and fairest.

At the vote count held at the league’s annual awards night and presentation dinner in Morwell, Cook’s runaway win in the Hutchison Medal count was one of several recognitions she received for her outstanding season with the Gulls.

Her performances at goal defence played a big part in Warragul’s A grade side winning a place in the finals.

Cook’s winning margin in the Hutchison Medal count was one of the largest for many years.

She polled a total of 37 votes after receiving umpires’ votes in 15 of the 18 home and away grounds, including nine as best on court.

At the end of the count, Cook had a 15vote margin over runner-up Nicola Marriott of Leongatha with 2015 winner Courtney Garth of Morwell a further vote back in third place.

Her season was further rewarded by being named captain of the Gippsland League team of the year and also winning the Most Valuable Player award judged on votes by the 10 clubs after each game
