Warragul returned to the winners list in golf croquet pennant with victory over Phillip Island.

After the first round of singles the scores were locked on two games all, but Warragul dropped only two of the next 10 games to comfortabl­y win 10 games, 89 hoops to four games, 66 hoops.

Paul Simmons won all five of his games for the day, as did Tony Butterwort­h. Due to the distance to travel, Bairnsdale requested the match be played on neutral ground at the half way mark, being Morwell Croquet Club.

There was a difference of 8.5 in the handicap of the first singles with Drouin’s Allan Leesing (nine) against Judy wembrudge (one half), the score resulting in a win for Judy 18 hoops to 15.

Michael Fry of Drouin on a handicap of 20 stepped up for the round in place of Jenny Leesing. His singles game was against Garry Prescott off a handicap of 14, and at end of game time, the score was 14 hoops to 13 in Garry’s favour.

Down two games at the commenceme­nt of the doubles, Drouin put in a credible performanc­e and overcame Bairnsdale 16 hoops to 13.

The overall result was a close encounter with Bairnsdale winning two games 45 hoops, to Drouin one win 44 hoops. Drouin have the bye on Thursday.
