Thrilling win for Longwarry

Longwarry’s division two team came away with a thrilling threeshot win over Warragul in the first game of the pennant bowls season.

Whilst division two played in glorious conditions, division six had an unfortunat­e day off with Warragul forfeiting.

Division two: Longwarry 16/94 defeated Warragul (1) 4/91.

Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Hank Metselaar and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to Bill Clappers’ team 29/30.

Warragul got off to a flying start, leading by 10 shots at end six. In a complete turnaround, Longwarry picked up 21 shots in the next seven ends - including a seven - to lead by eight shots at the halfway mark.

Warragul fought its way back into the game, levelling the scores with one end to play. They won the last end by a shot to win a great game by that margin.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated Graeme Davis’ team 32/12.

Longwarry controlled this game from the outset, winning 18 of the 25 ends. They finished 20-shots up in a great team effort.

Mark Serong, Vicki Hanks, Simon Whitlock and Ken White (skip) lost to Ken Scammell’s team 11/30.

In a total opposite to the previous rink, Warragul controlled this game for the majority of the contest, winning by 19 shots. Longwarry’s third saved his very best for the last bowl of the day.

Simon Counsel, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Clive Padgham’s team 22/19.

Longwarry got off to a great start and had a convincing 11-shot lead at the tea break. After the break, Warragul slowly pegged back the lead to be within a shot by the 23rd end.

The team was well skipped by Russell, showing poise to win the last three ends to take the rink by three shots.
