Drouin leads division three

Drouin Bowling Club had a good day of bowls on Saturday with a full spectrum of results - a win, draw, loss and forfeit.

Division one had a 22-shot loss at Traralgon whilst division three had a good 22-shot win at home against Moe to claim top spot on the ladder.

Division four had a 95-all draw with top of the ladder Newborough and division six received a forfeit from Warragul.

Congratula­tions to Les Firth on winning the regional over 60 men’s singles played at Strzelecki on Friday.

Division one: Drouin 2/94 lost to Traralgon 18/116.

Samantha Atkinson, Les Firth, Dennis Throup and Matthew Schreyer defeated M. Ferrari’s team 43/18 to be best overall rink. Ron Brodie, Glen Lockett, Toby Wallace and Gary Johnson lost to Neville Brown’s team 16/26. David McIlfatric­k, Col Finger, John Leighton and Adam Proctor lost to Ian Kirkup’s team 18/33. Graeme Aubrey, Dale Hendrick, Sheryl Atkinson and Mark Atkinson lost to J. Scullin’s team 17/39.

Division three: Drouin (2) 18/99 defeated Moe (2) 2/77.

Matthew Willis, Janice Aubrey, Graham Woolstencr­oft and Tim Anderson defeated Norm Hinchcliff­e’s team 24/19. Dom Mowat, Chris Brownlee, Phil Jarred and David Tayles defeated E. Davies’ team 25/14. Bob Cole, Pauline Appleyard, Col Jeffrey and Andrew Kidd lost to J. Kerr’s team 25/29. Laurie Innes, Noel Stoney, Maureen Leighton and Arthur Moore defeated K. Hunter’s team 25/15.

Division four: Drouin Newborough (3) 10/95.

Elaine Thorpe, Merv Appleyard, Ray Watson and Neil Bullen defeated Norm Forbes’ team 30/24.

In the last end, the Newborough skipper had an up shot at Drouin’s bowl. In doing so, he took his own bowl off the green, leaving all of Drouin’s bowls on the green. Drouin received six shots and the game.

Mal Anderson, Margaret Rhodes, Richard Joiner and Brian Thorpe defeated E. Whklan’s team 23/21.

In this game, Drouin led Newborough 11/0 on the 11th end, only to finish two-shot winners.

Clive Newman, Gary Watts, Lloyd Smith and Barry Price lost to Alan Luck’s team 19/26.

Terry McFadzean, Gwen Price, Mary Firth and Margaret Schofield lost to K. Evans’ team 23/24.

Division six: Drouin (4) won on forfeit from Warragul.

Jim Purvis, Barbara Watts, Ian Haughton and Les Gouge won on forfeit. Max Hine, Maureen McMillan, John Kinrade and Tom Lawler won on forfeit. (3) 10/95 drew

Drouin had a very successful round four in midweek pennant, with wins across all three divisions.

Weather conditions were good for bowls although the wind was very cold.

Division one: Drouin 14/64 defeated Neerim District 2/44.

Denise Hamilton's team of Margaret Schofield, Margaret Rhodes and Graeme Aubrey lost 18/20. Sheryl Atkinson's team of Lyn Jeffrey, Les Firth and Mary Firth won 25/12. Maureen Leighton's team of Pauline Appleyard, John Leighton and Elaine Thorpe won 21/12.

Division three: Drouin (2) 14/54 defeated Trafalgar (2) 2/50.

Gwen Price's team of Maureen McMillan, Trish Cole and Laurie Innes lost 16/20. Irene Dawson's team of Dini Hone, Andrew Blaby and Lorraine Fox won 23/16. Jenny Woolard's team of Jan Johnson, Maria Wans and Lyn Rippon won 15/14.

Division four: Drouin (3) 10/51 defeated Traralgon (4) 0/33.

Kath Dixon's team of Pat Yeo, Joan Lang and Maureen Brunet won 20/16. Judith Stoney's team of Lorraine Kinrade, Barbara Watts and Ian Haughton won 31/17.

The team also scored a perfect eight on the last end. They will all receive an “8” badge from the associatio­n and, to top off a wonderful day, were named best overall rink with 14-shots up.
