Bulls in box seat in division three

-

Bunyip posted a big total to put themselves in the box seat over Drouin in round three, with other matches hanging in the balance.

Western Park have lost an early wicket in pursuit of Buln Buln’s 114, while Jindivick made it through to stumps with all 10 wickets in tact for their chase of Garfield-Tynong’s 172.

Neerim District are also in the box seat against Yarragon, requiring 56 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Bunyip set big total

Bunyip 231 v Drouin 0/1 Bunyip were able to launch to a big total despite Drouin picking up early wickets through Nicholas Caddy and Kye Osseweyer.

Harry McConnell (70)led the charge, combining with Tyler McMillan (40) for a partnership of 84 before finding further support from Peter Duffus (41) in a partnership of 80.

James McKellar (31) did a good job of shepherding the tail to see the Bulls post 231.

Gavin Mills (3/39) and Cambell Jolly (2/36) chipped in to prevent the Bulls from scoring a mammoth total, while Josh Maric finally ended the resistance with the wicket of McKellar.

Maric and Jude Fernando ensured there would be no damage inflicted ahead of next week’s big chase, successfully negotiating the two overs to stumps.

Savage falls short of ton

Garfield-Tynong 172 v Jindivick 0/0 Daniel Savage proved key to GarfieldTynong’s hopes as the Titans posted 172 against Jindivick.

Savage hit 11 fours and four sixes and appeared on his way to a century, only for Sayeed Shah to break through his defences on 97.

It was Shah that kept Jindivick in the match, returning the figures of 5/15 from 19 overs with 12 maidens.

While others fell around him as other batsmen struggled to reach double figures, Savage was able to score freely against the change bowlers to help the Titans post a competitive score.

Phill Young chipped in with 3/36 while Steven McGillivray finished the innings with the final wicket.

McGillivray and Brandon Interlandi successfully negotiated the six balls to stumps.

Stags start chase

Yarragon 104 v Neerim District 1/49 Neerim District are well on the way to securing the points over Yarragon.

After losing Cameron Law caught by John Allsop off the bowling of Aaron Donoghue early, Brett Bransgrove (24*) and TomParker (19*) steadied to see the Stags through to 1/49 at stumps.

The pair will look to go on with their partnership with the Stags requiring just 56 runs with nine wickets in hand after earlier bowling Yarragon out for 104.

JohnMalacarne and Donoghue each managed 21 for Yarragon, but others struggled to get going as the Stags took wickets at regular intervals.

Backed up by some miserly bowling by Bransgrove and John Fleming in their short spells, Toby Bayne and Law did the bulk of the work as each sent down more than 20 overs while, finishing with 5/42 and 5/44 respectively.

Bowlers on top

Buln Buln 114 v Western Park 1/2 The bowlers were on top during the opening day of play between BulnBuln and Western Park.

Dean Hendrikse (23) and Reece Campbell (27)got Buln Buln off to a good start, while middle order cameos from Patrick Ireland and Jaryd Kilday set a platform for a competitive total.

Enter Michael Rabl, who took four wickets to run through the tail and see the Lyrebirds lose six wickets for just five runs to crash to 114 all out.

Sydney AFL player Tom Papley showed he is an all-round talented sportsman, picking up two wickets. Kristian Harper was the other multiple wicket taker.

Papley didn’t have as much fortune with the bat however, snared bySam Reid early in the run chase.

Brendan Spicer got off the mark and will resume at the crease with Daniel Hilton.
