Armistice tribute concert

-

A tribute concert on Sunday afternoon will commemorate 100 years since the signing of the Armistice to end World War I.

Drouin Anglican Parish and Baw Baw Singers will present “Pack Up Your Troubles” on Remembrance Day at the Drouin Christ Church, 132 Princes Way at 2pm.

Performing a range of popular songs from the era leading up to and during the war, the audience will be taken on a musical walk to remind of the courage and community that supported people through such uncertain times.

It is remarkable how enduring those popular songs are, and what an important part of our history they have become.

Imagine the delight and excitement of an invitation to high-brow “The Darktown Strutters Ball!” Or the truth in facing fears and troubles by simply wearing a “Smile” to get your through. And then just the pure nonsense of “Aba Daba Honeymoon” telling about the love and eventual marriage between a chimpanzee and a monkey.

The audience will have many opportunities to sing along to familiar songs.

A choir of 40 people will be conducted by Elizabeth Willems, and accompanied by Bob Yuill (keyboard), Brett Forge (flute) and Jack Pretty (double bass).

Admission is via gold coin donation and will be followed by an afternoon tea.
