VCAL students fundraise

-

Drouin Secondary College VCAL students have been completing their competencies over the past month through organising fundraising events for several worthy causes.

A Pyjama day was organised for students to support the Beyond Blue Foundation and raise awareness of mental health issues

For a gold coin donation, students and staff were encouraged to wear pyjamas or something blue.

Other events on the day including a bake sale, sausage sizzle, student versus teacher dodgeball game, apple bobbing, tug of war and much more.

The day raised $1500 for the Beyond Blue Foundation.

The VCAL students also organised a car wash for staff.

The weather was cold and wet but much to the delight of staff, the students pushed through, washing and vacuuming 28 cars and raising $515 for the Cancer Council.

Not only have the VCAL students raised much-needed funds for organisations in the community, they have also worked tirelessly on something extremely close to home.

The students have completed an artist’s garden and memorial for a young student, whose life was taken far too soon.

The school thanked local businesses who have donated time, money and materials to the garden.

Principal Deb Gentle said Drouin Secondary College is proud to be a community college.

“It is fantastic that our students are learning valuable skills through supporting the wider community,” she said.

“It really reinforces our College values of community and commitment”.
