Buln Buln Primary School student Edith Box is the winner of Gippsland Water’s poster competition for National Water Week.

The year 1/2 student won a prize pack including a $100 iTunes voucher.

Gippsland Water general manager business transformation Angelo Saridis awarded the prize to Edith at her school assembly.

Mr Saridis also presented a $500 prize to Buln Buln Primary School principal Mrs Meagan Blewett. The funds will be used towards a sustainability project or learning resources for the school.

“We are very proud of Edith and her efforts to support the sustainable use of our water,” Mrs Blewett said.

“Her message reminds us all that as community members and global citizens we are all responsible to care for and to conserve water.”

Mr Saridis said he was delighted with the quality of Edith’s artwork.

“Edith’s entry impressed us with her clever use of a ‘WATER’ acronym, vibrant colour selection and depiction of this year’s theme: Water for me, water for all,” he said.

“Edith’s decision to include a farm animal and two people carefully collecting every last drop of rain was particularly poignant this year, given the drought conditions currently faced by many regional communities.”

National Water Week is an annual celebration of water which makes a splash across Australia during the third week of October each year.

It’s designed to encourage the community to take action to help protect and conserve our most precious natural resource – water.
