Stars perform together at last

-

Old friends Silvie Paladino and David Hobson will join for a rare concert together at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Friday, November 16 at 8pm.

Speaking to the Gazette, David said the duo appear on Carols by Candlelight each year but “it’s very rare that we get out to do concerts together”.

The concert, aptly titled “Together at Last”, will feature a wide selection of classical and musical items from their successful careers, performed both individually and together.

“In essence, I guess it’s an evening of lovely music making, coupled with a little bit of fun,” said David.

“What the audience get out of it is the sense of people really enjoying each other on stage. We’re very lucky to be able to do this for a living.”

David described Silvie as “the most glorious singer” and “one of the finest vocalists of our generation”.

The pair will be accompanied by David Cameron – “the finest accompanist in the land”.

It will be a home coming as such when David performs in one of the first concerts staged at the newly refurbished arts centre.

David fondly recalls performing in his first opera tour at Warragul in 1985/86. He also performed at the launch of a community fundraising appeal prior to the redevelopment.

Silvie has performed throughout Australia, Asia and London’s West End. Her first theatrical role was Eponine in the Australasian tour of “Les Misérables”. She was then invited to perform the role in the London production.

Her other performances include lead roles in “Cats”, “Miss Saigon”, “Mamma Mia!” and “The King and I”.

David made his name with Opera Australia in his award-winning performance of Rodolfo in “La Bohème” directed by Baz Luhrmann.

David’s unique talents have enabled him to sing for the Queen, win “Dancing with the Stars” and play such diverse roles as Orphée to Caractacus Potts in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.

Tickets are $59 for adults, $54 for concession and members and $49 for youth under 18.
