Warriors win both games in CBL

-

The Warragul Warriors men held their place at the top of the Country Basketball League ladder with wins over Korumburra Wildcats and Westernport Steelers in round four.

Travelling over to Korumburra on Saturday night, the Warriors had little trouble in overcoming the Wildcats 82-37.

While Nicholas Prowd shot a game high 22 points for the Wildcats, he had little support as the Warriors ran away with a comfortable win.

Mihailo Kulas shot 21 points for the Warriors, while Murray Myers (15 points), Lincoln Scott (10) and Jarrod Castle (10) also contributed to the cause.

Each Warrior registered on the scoresheet in a strong team performance.

Hosting the Steelers at Warragul Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon, the Warriors scored another comfortable victory, 85-51.

The Warriors burst out of the blocks to create a 10-point buffer at the first break, increasing it to 25-points at half time.

The Steelers held firm to hold the deficit to 21-points at the final break before the Warriors lifted again to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Each Warrior registered a score again in another strong team effort.

Jarrod Castle led the way with 16 points, while James Portbury(12), Murray Myers (11) and Riley Pollard (10) also shot double figures.

The Warriors men will play at Churchill on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the Warriors women didn’t fare as well, going down to the Wildcats in a tight contest 74-60.

Mikaela Dickson (21 points) and Shanara Notman (17) again led the charge for the Warriors, but they couldn’t match the allround scoring depth of the Wildcats who had four players score 62 points between them.

The Warriors women sit fourth with two wins and two losses.

The Warriors women have the bye this week.
