-

Longwarry’s division two team cemented its spot in the top four with a comfortable 43-shot win over Warragul two in windy conditions at Warragul on Saturday.

Division six travelled to Thorpdale and, in a close contest, just lost by five shots.

Division two: Longwarry 18/101 defeated Warragul (2) 2/58.

Brian Hennessey, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Peter Wood’s team 32/12.

After an even start, Longwarry took the lead on end six and continued to extend this lead throughout the day. They played well as a team to win by 20 shots and be the best overall rink for the day.

Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Hank Metselaar, and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated David Gatewood’s team 29/12.

In another game which started evenly, Longwarry won seven ends in a row to pick up 12 shots. This set up a big 17-shot win, with the skip being a standout.

Sharon Twite, Michael Malloy, John McCarthy and Ken White (skip) lost to David Smith’s team 18/19.

In a close game with several lead changes, Longwarry needed three to win on the last end. With Warragul holding five shots, Ken (almost) White put in a couple of bowls. He just missed out picking up one shot to lose by one.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated Jim Moyle’s team 22/15.

In another close game, Longwarry picked up seven shots in the last five ends to win by seven shots, with all players bowling well.

Division six: Longwarry (2) lost to Thorpdale (2) 40/45.

Reg Dunn, Eddie Bluck, Ron Sutton and Frank Hone (skip) lost to L. Rowling’s team 16/21.

Longwarry picked up five shots just after the break to take a one-shot lead. However, they couldn’t hold off a fast finishing Thorpdale to lose by five shots.

Peter Smethurst, Brian Green, Brian Mason and Gerry Wakefield (skip) drew G. Savige’s team 24/24.

In another close game, the game finished in a fitting tie.
