Stunning century to Newcombe

A fine century to Jai Newcombe highlighte­d impressive efforts from Warragul District Cricket Associatio­n junior teams in Gippsland Cricket League.

With Warragul falling to 2/20 after electing to bat, Newcombe made an expert 117 to help guide the Wild Dogs to a competitiv­e total of 215.

Highlighti­ng his individual brilliance was the fact extras was the next best score with 31.

Jordan Hack (62) and Brad Nasrallah (29) saw Bairnsdale make a positive start in reply before the Warragul bowlers applied the brakes, the home side crashing to be 166 all out.

Tyler Constantin­e did the bulk of the damage with three wickets.

In other matches Sale-Maffra (6/186) held on to defeat Leongatha (171) by 15-runs, while Latrobe Valley (2/178) comfortabl­y chased down Traralgon and District’s 4/167.

Several cameos with both bat and ball helped Warragul and District also defeat Bairnsdale in the under 16s.

A half century to Jai Serong (56) in the middle order continued the good work of Chris Diston (39) and Liam O’Connor (34) as the Wild Dogs posted 187 with one ball to spare.

Bairnsdale challenged the target through Curtley Farley (86), but when he fell with the score on 114 the Warragul bowlers were able to get on top, the home side crashing to 165 all out.

O’Connor picked up four wickets, while Jacob Kleeven collected two while conceding just 12 runs from his 10 overs.
