Warragul returns to form

Warragul Croquet Club returned to form by defeating Morwell in golf croquet pennant.

Rebounding from a loss to Wonthaggi 1 last week, Warragul scored at home 10 games 88 hoops to Morwell four games 70 hoops. Results: Singles: Round 1: Russ Marriott lost to Alex Williamson 6/7, Tony Butterwort­h lost to Nancy Donnelly 2/7, Paul Simmons defeated George Harris 7/6, Moary Cornwall defeated Helen Checkley 7/3.

Round 2: P: Simmons def H Checkley 7/5, M Cornwall def G Harris 7/3, T Butterwort­h lost to A Williamson 6/7, R Marriott def N Donnelly 7/3.

Doubles: R Marriott/T Butterwort­h dcef A Williamson/N Donnelly 7/4, P Simmons/M Cornwall def G Harris/H Checkley 7/6, T Butterwort­h/M Cornwall def N Donnelly/H Checkley 7/2, R Marriott/P Simmons def A Williamson/G Harris 7/4, R Marriott/M Cornwall def A Williamson/H Checkley 7/4, T Butterwort­h/P Simmons lost to N Donnelly/G Harris 4/7. Today is a bye due to the Melbourne Cup. Warragul will play host to Wonthaggi 2 next week.

Drouin fall

After coming off a win the previous week, the Drouin team found it hard to adjust to the tricky lawns at Wonthaggi and were disappoint­ed in the final outcome of the match.

Playing Wonthaggi’s number one team,. the extra shots were fairly even in total for the match with Wonthaggi receiving 27 to Drouin’s 23.

At completion of the first round of singles Drouin were down one game to three snd by six hoops, 20 to 26.

The second singles round slipped out of Drouin’s grasp and also went Wonthaggi’s way 3-1, with 27 hoops to 17 givign the home side an overall lead of six games 53 hoops to two games 37 hoops. Results: Singles 1: Heather Bullen lost to Paul Andrews 7/5, Kathleen Willems def Susan Cartwright 7/5, Nannatte Fry lost to Ruth Cashin 5/7, Vicky Rogers lost to Ray Ogle 3/7.

Singles 2: V Rogers lost to R Cashin 7/3, N Fry def R Ogle 7/6, K Willems lost to P Andrews 7/3, H Bullen lost to S cartwright 6/7.

Doubles 1: Bullen/Willems lost to Andrews/Cartwright 5/7, Fry/Rogers lost to Cashin/Ogle 7/5.

Doubles 2: Willems/Rogers lost Cartwright/Ogle 4/7, Bullen/Fry Andrews/Cashin 7/5.

Doubles 3: Willems/Fry def Cartwright/Cashin 7/5, Bullen/Rogers lost to Andrews/Ogle 3/7.

Mweanwhile, Drouin’s Associatio­n croquet team played away against Traralgon 1.

Traralgon’s ColinCrawf­ord (handicap nine) and Ron Davis (handicap 16) were in fine form on their home ground and proved tough opponents for Drouin’s Allan and Jenny Leesing.

The Drouin team lost both singles 11/26, Allan losing to Crawford and Jenny losing to Ron.

Although doing well in the doubles Allan and Jenny could not hold off the Traralgon pair and went down 21/26.

Drouin were defeated three wins 78 hoops to zero wins, 43 hoops.

Drouin is home to Traralgon 2 on Thursday. to def
