Rock star ambition

-

The donation of a guitar has helped Warragul Regional College student Jye Burton in his ambitions to become a rock star.

Following a donation from an anonymous person, Warragul Community House contacted the local secondary school to find a worthy recipient.

Warragul Regional College chaplain Bek Campbell said the donated guitar would help Jye build his skills and connect with other people interested in music.

“Sandra Morgan is a volunteer at Warragul Community House and also at Warragul Regional College’s breakfast club,” she said.

“She asked us if there was anyone who would be interested in a guitar and lessons.

“We discussed it as a student support team and agreed Jye would be suitable.

“They were looking at music lessons and its affordability being about $200-$300, they were looking at its viability.

“His lessons were up for renewal and then this came up.”

The year nine student, who comes from a musical family, said he was grateful to receive the scholarship from the Community House which also includes lessons from tutor Luke Matthews.

“Jye has an interest in music and wants to be a rock star,” Ms Campbell said.

“In fact, if he keeps at it, he will become a rock star.

“He plays drums at school and he wants to get singing lessons as well.
