A part to play
Following my involvement in the serious collision at Parkers Rd, Cloverlea on October 20, I would like to convey my appreciation to:
Warragul Toyota, despite short ownership, your prompt service and advice meant I was driving a car with modern, life-saving safety features.
Local residents (particularly Buster and Warwick) who rendered assistance at the scene prior to emergency services arriving.
All emergency services personnel, police (Bec M and Simone), ambulance, SES, CFA and West Gippsland Hospital emergency department.
My support to Ms Bursa and other locals who continue to petition for change and who have no doubt witnessed or been involved in accidents or near misses due to the dangerous nature of this intersection.
Even if these are predominantly road user error and the road meets standards Sgt Visser, it doesn't change the fact that it remains an extremely dangerous intersection.
To Mr Cohen Van der Velde, the Baw Baw Shire and VicRoads, I would encourage you to re-visit this sight, as the rumble strips you refer to were not reinstated after resurfacing work months ago, a feature that may have mitigated the seriousness of my accident.
On that note, local residents would welcome a community meeting to discuss this intersection and perhaps provide insights which you are not explicitly aware of - the CFA in Cloverlea is willing to host.
To the truck driver parking on the south west side of the intersection, please park somewhere else, this only compounds the issue of visibility.
To the other family involved in the accident, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
To my fellow road users (cyclists and drivers), be vigilant, especially on our country roads learn and observe the road rules, consider the conditions and your capacity. TAC may be ambitious, but we all have a part to play in working to achieve the goal of ‘towards zero'.
Elly Martin, Cloverlea
