Improper use

-

This morning in the post I received a letter which, because it said so on the outside, I assumed was from the Victorian Electoral Commission.

Being official in look, I opened the envelope. Inside I found a form for postal voting in the upcoming state election but I also found a letter of information from the Liberal Party, under the heading of our local Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood.

I am very concerned that the name of the Electoral Commission, which should be nonpartisan, is being used to support one party which is contesting an election.

I rang the local office of Mr Blackwood, and the reception person claimed to have had no knowledge of this letter and suggested I ring the Liberal Party in Melbourne. When I rang that number, I was told the relevant person would call me back, which at this point has not happened.

I notice that the Victorian Electoral Commission has put a disclaimer notice onto its website, saying that they have not sent any information out to the electorate.

This is improper use of the name of the Electoral Commission, who must always appear to be impartial. The Liberal Party need to stop using tricks like this to influence the voting public.

I am not a member of any party, I am just a concerned member of this community.
