Wilson and Clapton rock WGAC

-

Get ready for “Eagle Rock” and “Goodbye Tiger” when Australian music icons Ross Wilson and Richard Clapton perform a “one night only” show in Warragul on Saturday, November 24 at 7.30pm.

Although friends for many years and having made several attempts to perform together in concert, Clapton says “Warragul’s the only one we’ve been able to coagulate. It kind of makes it special.”

“I do know our generation of artists are really flat out all of the time,” added Clapton. “Everyone has their own careers.”

With each having had extensive careers spanning more than four decades along with a swag of hits, Ross Wilson and Richard Clapton are expected to perform an incredible double bill in Warragul.

The two are standouts on the Australian music scene and will bring hit after hit to the West Gippsland Arts Centre for the audience to rock the night away.

With a catalogue of 240 songs to select from, Clapton is promising the Warragul audience all the hits, some new material and, if time permits, an epic version of “Goodbye Tiger”.

Other popular songs such as “Deep Water”, “Capricorn Dancer” and “Girls on the Avenue” are also expected to captivate.

Daddy Cool himself Ross Wilson will similarly jam-pack his set with hits to keep the audience on their feet from start to finish.

Wilson, who has twice been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, will recall hits from his time in bands “Daddy Cool” and “Mondo Rock” and his prolific solo career.

With songs such as “Eagle Rock”, “Cool World” and “A Touch of Paradise” in his arsenal, it’s not surprising he continues to garner new fans every year.

Asked the reason for their longevity, Clapton believes “we (our generation) really first got into music for pure ideals. Being rich and famous wasn’t a consideration”. Back in Melbourne during the 70s, Clapton believes musicians would have sneered at fame as “we took music pretty seriously”.

However, after doing in financially tough in the beginning, having a US break thwarted by his record company, and holding concerns over when his career would end, Clapton is now able to simply enjoy writing music and performing.

“It’s just like a rollercoaster. There are highs and lows. We just learn to go on the ride and not let it really worry you.”

Clapton is also excited to be one of the first performers to grace the newly refurbished West Gippsland Arts Centre.

“I can’t wait. I’m hearing some really good things about it.” All tickets for the show are $60. For bookings or further information, contact the West Gippsland Arts Centre box-office on 5624 2456 or visit wgac.org.au.
