Intensive animal industries focus of symposium
Market report for 7th and 8th November Wednesday Fat Sale 146 head. Thursday Bull and Cow Sale 29 bulls, 315 cows and 14 steers.
146 head this Wednesday for the fat sale, which is 77 less than last week. With quality up top vealer making 320 cents per kg. A drop in heifers numbers this week with more steers selling well. There was 85 vealers sold to 320 to average 267.8. There was 7 heifers offered with the top 257.2, down 11 cents. There was 54 steers offered to top at 297.2, up 4 cents. The yard average was 247.3 which is same as last week. The bull sale on Thursday had 29 bulls. Sold to top of 278.2 cents per kg up 30 cents with demand very strong on bulls. The bull average was 229.9 cents, up 22 cents. Beef cows offered sold to strong competition saw the top cow make 284.2, up 51 cents on the best beef cows. Friesian steers were yarded to sell 232.6. The good run of dairy cows sold well with all buyers trying to fill orders. The cow average was 187 cents, up 16 cents.
The yard average was 192.5, up 15 cents.

Improving environmental outcomes for intensive animal industries will be the focus of a symposium next month.
The symposium will be held at the Centre for AgriBioscience, La Trobe University, Bundoora on December 3 from 9am to 5:15pm, and December 4 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
The symposium brings together world leading experts in the environmental management of intensive animal industries and will cover topics including:
Understanding the changing nature of animal production systems, locally and internationally
