Division 2

- By Joel Batson

Iona 174 v Longwarry 0/5 Iona looked to keep their winning ways going on the weekend and have put themselves in a decent position to achieve that as they made a defendable 174 in their clash with Longwarry.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Nick Felstead (24) got the Swamp Tigers off to a positive start before he was run-out by the swift fielding of Austin Van Strijp, who’s influence would be felt towards the back-end of the innings.

As wickets steadily fell, particularly due to the bowling of Cole Cook (3-26), Mick Taylor (79) showed his poise as he alleviated any potential collapse and put the pressure on Longwarry’s young attack with his attacking stroke-play.

His demise was brought about by Van Strijp (4-22), who halted the momentum Iona had built, as he took regular wickets as Iona slipped to be all out in the 64th over.

With just three overs to bowl, they were unsuccessful in taking any wickets in reply, as the Crows warded off their nerves and finished on 0-5.

Tyler boosts Gulls

Warragul 8/251cc v Drouin Warragul’s hopes of back-to-back wins have been given a major boost by the utterly outstanding innings of one of the Warragul District Cricket Association’s most in-form batsmen, young Tyler Constantine.

After making the switch from Jindivick this season Constantine has flourished and he bullied the Drouin attack, including the likes of Joey Sweeney, all over the small St. Paul’s outfield as he batted throughout the innings to make 136 not out.

Constantine’s knock included four towering sixes as he pushed the Gulls to 8-251 off their allotted overs.

However their day didn’t always go to planafter Paddy Mulqueen (30) had aided Constantine in pushing the score to 1-135.

This quickly became 7-187 through the bowling of veteran John Perry (4-73).
