Buln Buln pull off unlikely victory
The Panthers would have been confident of a crushing victory from here, with the likes of John Allsop in their side, however Buln’s bowling line-up had other ideas.
As Sam Reid (4-24) bowled unchanged, the likes of Jarryd Kilday (3-22) and young gun Andrew Burdett (3-5) proved too much to handle as wickets fell at regular intervals to strangle Yarragon’s batting order.
Aaron Donoghue (23) fought hard, however the avalanche of wickets was unstoppable, as Yarragon slipped to 51 all out and Buln celebrated an unlikely 18-run victory.
Drouin routed
Jindivick 1/17 v Drouin 92 Sayeed Shah and Andrew Pyle have routed Drouin’s batting order to collect all 10 wickets between them.
Apart from contributions through the middle of the innings from Daniel Burke (24) and Clint Osseweyer (22), Drouin had no answer for Shah (6-31) and Pyle (4-25) as they caused a collapse of 5-5 at the end to finish the Hawks’ demise at 92 all out and put the Jumping Jacks in prime position of victory.
However Drouin’s bowlers fought back late in the day, keeping the runs to a minimum as Jindivick closed play at 1-17 off 21 tight overswith plenty still to play for next week.
A bowler’s haven
Neerim District 4/44 v Western Park 104 It seemed to be a bowler’s haven in division three matches at the weekend, with Neerim’s clash against Western Park proving to be no exception.
Western Park won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that would come back to haunt them as they lost three early wickets to be in early trouble.
Cam Law (3-38) and Brett Bransgrove (2-21) continued their fine form, as did Kurtis Harper (30) and Stephen Briggs (25) who briefly resuscitated the Warriors innings with a 60-run partnership.
However Mitch Sayburn (3-11) brought a swift end to the innings, as Western Park collapsed in a heap to be 104 all-out.
With 17 overs still left to play, Western Park put some serious pressure on the Stags batting order as Michael Talbot took two key wickets, to leave Neerim precariously placed on 4-44 heading into next week.
Bunyip firm as favorites
Bunyip 2/80 v Garfield-Tynong 96 Bunyip has firmed their premiership favouritism, crippling Garfield-Tynong’s team in all aspects at home.
Bowling first, Davis McConnell (5-18) showed why he is arguably the best bowler in the division, taking stumps for fun as only Anthony Hart (28) and Stuart Horsburgh (22) provided any resistance to the onslaught.
Stacy Best (3-9) controlled his bowling and took key wickets in support of McConnell, as the Titans were out in a heap for just 96.
In reply Harry McConnell (29*) and Tyler McMillan (26*) were able to steady the ship after the loss of Squires and Whibley early, however were unable to complete victory as they closed play in the dominant position at 2-80.
