Man arrested after assault

A man was remanded in custody after attempting to assault a detective at a property in Jindivick on Sunday.

An elderly woman living at the property called police when a man attended at her Main Neerim Rd property and started searching through sheds.

Police said the man used his four wheel drive vehicle to run over a wire fence and then searched through sheds before forcing his way into the woman’s house. The woman rang her son and police. The offender attempted to assault the woman’s son with a piece of wood.

When police arrived, the male also allegedly lunged at a Baw Baw CIU detective with a piece of wood. The detective was able to restrain and handcuff the male.

Police said the man appeared to be drug affected.

The 38-year-old Portland male was remanded in custody to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrate­s’ Court yesterday. He was charged with aggravated burglary, assault, assault police and drug offences.
