Man ar­rested after as­sault

A man was re­manded in cus­tody after at­tempt­ing to as­sault a de­tec­tive at a prop­erty in Jin­di­vick on Sun­day.

An el­derly woman liv­ing at the prop­erty called po­lice when a man at­tended at her Main Neerim Rd prop­erty and started search­ing through sheds.

Po­lice said the man used his four wheel drive ve­hi­cle to run over a wire fence and then searched through sheds be­fore forc­ing his way into the woman’s house. The woman rang her son and po­lice. The of­fender at­tempted to as­sault the woman’s son with a piece of wood.

When po­lice ar­rived, the male also al­legedly lunged at a Baw Baw CIU de­tec­tive with a piece of wood. The de­tec­tive was able to re­strain and hand­cuff the male.

Po­lice said the man ap­peared to be drug af­fected.

The 38-year-old Port­land male was re­manded in cus­tody to ap­pear at La­trobe Val­ley Mag­is­trates’ Court yes­ter­day. He was charged with ag­gra­vated bur­glary, as­sault, as­sault po­lice and drug of­fences.
