Warragul’s average form continues

Warragul Bowling Club had an average day in round seven of WGBD pennant on Saturday with just one team winning.

Division two: Warragul (1) lost to Neerim District 80/96.

John Vickerman, David Alderman, David Gatewood and Graeme Davis lost to Angus McGillivra­y’s team 15/28. Luke Ward, Des Stephens, Peter Gallasch and Clive Padgham defeated Ray Watts’ team 28/18. Matt Smith, Jim Power, Janette Gallasch and Ken Scammell lost to Peter Throup’s team 17/22. Ken Landman, Pat Hammond, Paul Simmons and Bill Clappers lost to Shane Hogan’s team 20/28.

Division two: Warragul (2) lost to Garfield 82/105.

Ron Collins, Brian Barby, Bob Currie and Peter Wood lost to Shane Oliver’s team 21/22. Ken May, Brian Kennedy, David Ferguson and David Smith lost to Tom Cleary’s team 22/31. Keith Wilkins, Ken Brown, Shirley Melsen and Necip Akarsu lost to Peter Lieshout’s team 18/26. Kerrie Currie, Alan McDonnell, Ian Belling and Jim Moyle lost to Stephen Whyte’s team 21/26.

Division three: Warragul (3) lost to Morwell (2) 71/109.

David Anderson, May Baldwin, Gabrielle Draisma and Eric Porter lost to G. Berryman’s team 13/37. Lester Mason, Vin Roche, Matt Draisma and Fred Pitcher defeated L. Knowles’ team 26/22. John Bell, Graham Cobban, Chris Wilkins and Mike Cousens lost to L. Auld’s team 16/25. Ted Holland, Glad Atkinson, Nug Davies and Ray Headspeath lost to R. Anstey’s team 16/25.

Division five: Warragul (4) defeated Moe (3) 95/50.

Michael Royce, Bill Dye, Barry Downer and David Piggin defeated M. Dyt’s team 32/13. Freda Lay, Glynnis Mitchell, Marg Keeffe and Greg Mitchell defeated S. Alford’s team 30/17. Wilf Boscombe, Trevor Crofts, Gary Thomas and Alan Potter defeated W. Loch’s team 33/20.

In round eight of WGBD pennant on Saturday, Warragul one is away to Longwarry, Warragul two is home to Neerim District, Warragul three is away to Drouin two and Warragul four is home to Morwell four.

A number of club championsh­ip events are down to the final stages.

The men’s singles semi-finals were contested on Sunday.

John Vickerman got off to a flyer against Steve Pallot, leading 7/0 after three ends. However, Steve kept coming and went on to win 25/19.

In the other semi, Clive Padgham also had a great start and lead 6/1 after three ends against David Gatewood.

Scores were level at 13-all at one stage, but David got the mat and played long ends, resulting in a 25/16 win.

Steve and David will play off in the men’s championsh­ip singles final on Sunday, December 16 at 10am.

The men’s championsh­ip pairs is down to the final and it will see David Smith and Matt Smith playing Des Stephens and John Vickerman.

The mixed pairs is down to the semi-finals. Steve Pallot and May Baldwin will play Bill Clappers and Marg Keeffe, while Des Stephens and Alison Matthews will play Brian Barby and Dawn Thomas.

Finally, the women’s singles is also down to the semi-finals. Shirley Melsen will play Freda Lay in one semi, while Elsie Hefford will play Edna Adams in the other.
