-

Neerim District Bowling Club had a 16-shot win after playing away against Warragul in division two.

Division two: Neerim District 96 defeated Warragul 80.

Peter Throup (skip), Peter Brooks, Gerry Engelstad and Colin McKay defeated Ken Scammell’s team 22/17.

Neerim won the first five ends before Warragul got on the board with a one. Neerim continued to win most ends and led 15/3 on the 13th end and break.

Warragul came back a different team and proceeded to win the next five ends to cut the margin to three. Honours were even from then on but a four on the second last end gave Neerim a buffer as they went on to win by five shots.

Shane Hogan (skip), Neil Adams, Trevor Kuhnell and Karen Sheers defeated Bill Clappers’ team 28/20.

Scoring was very close over the first eight ends as Neerim trailed 7/8. Neerim won the next six ends and held a seven-shot lead after 13 ends.

Again, after the break, Warragul came out firing to win the next four ends to tie the scores at 15-all. The game was in the balance up to the 21st end with Warragul leading by one. Neerim closed out strongly, winning the remaining four ends - including a five - to win by eight shots.

Angus McGillivray (skip), Pat FraserAurisch, Chris Hogan and Julie Adams defeated Graeme Davis’ team 28/15.

Angus and his “angels” were performing well from the start, up by eight after eight ends. They held that margin through to the 20th end.

The margin was extended out to 16 on the penultimate end before they dropped a three. Neerim still ran out comfortable winners by 13 shots.

Ray Watts (skip), Jim Fallon, Rob Cook and Greg Bond lost to Clive Padgham’s team 18/28.

Neerim got off to a poor start to be down 0/10 after four ends. Neerim closed the gap to four shots by the sixth end before Warragul countered and – with a four on the 14th – had the lead out to 11 shots.

Neerim hung tough and won five of the last seven ends to cut the margin to 10 shots.

Division five: Neerim District (2) 75 defeated Traralgon (5) 65.

Tom Goodwin (skip), Gerald Winter, George Rymer and Steve Halligan defeated B. May’s team 31/20.

Neerim got off to a solid start and had a five-shot lead after eight ends. Neerim maintained this lead and picked up a seven on the 16th end to lead by 12.

Traralgon came the next end, but Neerim followed up with a five and a two to lead by 16. Traralgon finished off well, picking up seven shots on the last two ends but Neerim were home with an eight-shot win.

Bruce Mironow (skip), Billie Cook, Thelma Schroeder and Neville Cousins defeated J. Moody’s team 24/16.

Scoring was very tight over the first 10 ends with scores level at six-all. Traralgon then picked up two threes to lead by six.

Neerim picked up nine shots over the next three ends to hit the lead. Scoring from then on was with ones and twos but fell mostly to Neerim’s favour for an eight-shot win.

Russell Meehan (skip), Jim Schroeder, Wes Ellis and John Rochford lost to R. Hale’s team 20/29.

Scoring was again tight early on with Neerim down 6/8 after 10 ends. Traralgon won the next three ends, including a five, to lead by 11.

Neerim countered, winning four of the next five ends to bring the margin back to three.

Traralgon responded with a four, but Neerim came back with a five, and the margin was down to two on the 20th end. Unfortunately, that was the end of Neerim’s run and Traralgon won the last five ends to win by nine shots
