No help from shire

-

My friend lived in a “quiet’ street in Warragul where his immediate neighbour consistently, over the period of nine months, held midweek parties resulting in antisocial behaviour including, illegal motor bike riding, loud music, and law breaking behaviour.

A remedy was sought from the council (alongside other authorities) but was met with helplessness, impotence and inaction. Apparently their hands were tied. My friend was forced to deal with the matter by himself.

However, when he parked his car on the opposite side of the road in the wrong direction, the council immediately sprang into action.

A parking officer was dispatched eight kilometres from the shire offices on a Saturday morning … no less.

A $98 infringement notice was issued (photos and all) for the heinous crime. Its commitment to law and order however, knew no bounds.

They repeated the process on the Monday morning immediately after. Another fine issued. That will show my friend, despite the likelihood that he would not have received the initial Saturday fine.

I would like to give a special mention to the neighbours who remained inactive, when the parties were being held, but were happy to ensure the unsociable parking behaviour of my friend, came to the attention of the council.

The less said about the council’s services to a much-maligned ratepayer, the better.
