Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Laughs, lycra and ABBA smash hits

-

The Gazette is giving away two double passes to “ABBA-solutely Fabulous” in Warragul on Saturday, December 15 at 8pm.

To enter, send an envelope with your name, address and daytime contact number to “ABBA-solutely Fabulous Competition”, Warragul Gazette, PO Box 305, Warragul 3820.

The competition closes on Monday, December 10 at 3pm and winners will be contacted by phone.

Real life best friends Rhonda Burchmore and Lara Mulcahy will bring laughs, friendship and girl power to Warragul with “ABBAsolutely Fabulous” on Saturday, December 15 at 8pm.

Think the partnering of Danny De Vito and Arnold Schwarzenegger – one short and one tall – combined with hilarious stories, ABBA hits and a fair splash of Patsy and Eddy from Absolutely fabulous fame.

Speaking to the Gazette ahead of the show at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, Rhonda emphasised the concert is “not an ABBA tribute as such”.

“A lot of fun is to be had on everything 70s and 80s – fashion, songs, boyfriends and tales we share…with ABBA songs thrown in”.

“It’s a very strong message of friendship and girl power. It’s a really fun night out and a perfect time with Christmas coming up for a girl’s night out. And the boys can come too.”

The duo is joined by a “young hot band that plays the music” and a little something Christmas is likely towards the end of the show.

“A lot is off the cuff,” added Rhonda. “We go with the flow of the audience. It’s lots of laughs with lycra and platform boots.”

The original dynamos from the worldwide sensation “Mamma Mia!”, Burchmore and Mulcahy are two of the country’s most formidable entertainers.

Rhonda’s career spans as long as her legs, and includes roles in “Hot Shoe Shuffle”, “Sugar Babies”, “Mamma Mia!” and “Mame”; alongside a regular guest slot on “Hey Hey It’s Saturday”.

Lara has played starring roles in “Mamma Mia!”, “Les Miserables”, “Moulin Rouge” and more.

Tickets are $60 for adults and $55 for members and guests. For bookings or further information, contact the West Gippsland Arts Centre box-office on 5624 2456 or visit wgac.com.au.
