Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Lazy art auction

Showcasing songs from album “Endless”, which debuted at number one on the ARIA Country Chart and won three awards at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards, Sam, Brooke and Mollie are keen to perform at the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

Speaking to the Gazette, Sam believed the upcoming Warragul concert would be a first for “The McClymonts”.

“We do love going down that way. We’re trying to find different places to go that we haven’t played before.”

Returning to the road in July after a year off, Sam said the Warragul show would be a bitter sweet feeling.

“We’re kind of on a roll. The shows so tight, we’re having a good time, everyone sounds amazing.”

Touring whilst juggling motherhood – and pregnancy in Sam’s case; it has certainly made it a busy year for the talented trio.

And, after 12 years together, Sam believes the amazing crowds and sold-out shows had certainly made it all worthwhile.

“It’s been wonderful. It’s been nice to get back out on the road.”

Asked what the Warragul audience can expect, Sam said “we have five albums to choose from now. But there are obvious ones you can’t do a show without. We do have a lot of songs and hopefully we do everyone’s favourite.”

The three smash hit singles from “Endless” “House”, “Don’t Wish It All Away” and “Like We Used To” - are set to shine alongside a growing catalogue of fan favourites such as “Forever Begins Tonight”, “Here’s to You and I”, “Wrapped Up Good” and “Kick It Up”.

Asked about the unique experience of working closely with her sisters, Sam said it was wonderful.

“I think that’s why we’ve lasted 12 years. You have your highs and lows but at the end of the day, we’re family.”

Although Sam is due to welcome her second child in early 2019, the trio don’t plan on slowing down and are already working on plans for next year.

“Things are never on hold really,” she said. “This tour has been a really good indication that people are coming out to the shows and enjoying the music.”

Tickets to see “The McClymonts” are $55 for adults and $50 for members.

Rokeby artist Phil Henshall will be holding a silent/lazy art auction at his studio this weekend.

Way back in 2006 at the “old” West Gippsland Arts Centre, Phil held exhibition “’Ligion, Land and Lazy Auction” at which he exhibited a range of works expressing these themes.

As part of the exhibition, he made a few works available for a slow and silent auction whereby people placed bids until 4pm on the closing day.

Some people were surprised, Phil was pleased; and he has looked forward to doing it again.

Now he has his own studio/gallery in Rokeby, Phil is doing just this.

With reserves on each work to help bidders get started, bidders can register, place offers and be informed on how their bid is going. The hammer goes down on Sunday at 3pm.

The studio will be open for viewing on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm. Out of hours previewing can also be arranged.

The works include those older than 10 years – even a couple as old as 40 years from Phil’s very first Prom series – or developmental to bring a bit of colour to somebody’s walls.

They vary from oils to works on paper, from serious to humorous.

Phil Henshall’s gallery is located at 1116 Main Neerim Rd, Rokeby.
