Warriors women on top in CBL

-

The Warragul Warriors women’s team will look to continue their winning form when they take on the Traralgon T-Birds in round nine of Country Basketball League on Saturday night.

Following an impressive victory over Moe in the opening round, the Meteors proved more competitive in the return match.

But the Warriors still held the edge to win 75-65 and sit at the top of the ladder.

Shanara Notman and Mikela Dickson once again had strong games, scoring 41 points between them with four long three-pointers from the latter a highlight.

Hannah McKenzie also shot a three-pointer, while Jasmine Fergsuon and Makaela Zeldenryk each scored 10 points.

The Warriors scored the first eight points through Notman and Dickson, but the Meteors were able to hang in throughtout the match and make the Warriors earn the win.

Tip off against the T-Birds on Saturday night is 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Warriors men will head into the Christmas break behind their Moe rivals on the ladder following a nine-goal loss.

The scoring power of Jayden Van Dyk (20) and Harrison Pepper (19) ultimately proved the difference as Moe won 76-67.

Dwain Scott led the scoring for Warragul from Jarrod Castle (12) and Murray Myers (11).

Warragul shot out to an early lead, but Moe were able to get back to level pegging at quarter time.

From there it was nip and tuck before the Meteors established a narrow gap in the final quarter, holding on for victory.

The Warriors men will play their next match on January 12.
