Meaningful gift drive
The Christmas spirit is thriving in Warragul as local businesses initiate Christmas drive activities in support of those people less fortunate in the Gippsland community.
South Brew Café in Warragul is currently accepting donations of gifts to support women and children who access Quantum Support Services as a result of family violence as well as those people who are experiencing homelessness.
Café co-owner Celia Irwin, with more than 30 years’ experience in the homelessness and family violence sector, knows that giving a gift to a client at Christmas, no matter how small, can be extremely meaningful for both the client and case worker.
Quantum’s manager of innovation and community strengthening Lisa Simpson was thrilled with the local business initiative.
“Community driven activities that support our clients cannot ever be appreciated enough by the organisation, particularly at this special time of year,” she said.
“The two areas that the South Brew Café Christmas drive focusses on are very timely. Women and children impacted by family violence can experience particular vulnerability and complex emotional response as a result of the trauma that they have experienced.
“Any initiative that demonstrates support and understanding is an important part of the healing process for these women and children in our community.”
“Christmas is also a stressful time for those who are experiencing challenges surrounding stability in housing, or indeed, homelessness,” Ms Simpson added.
