Sam’s a top apprentice
After being named the top apprentice in his field in Australia just last month Sam Morrow’s immediate attention is what the postie brings.
He has just completed his apprenticeship with Warragul firm Malady Electrical and has had his application for a licenced electrician approved and is now waiting for the formal licence to arrive in his letterbox.
Mr Morrow, who lives at Moe, has received plenty of industry recognition throughout his apprenticeship capped off with the National Electrical and Communications Association presenting him with the Australian apprentice of the year award in the commercial/domestic field at a function in Melbourne late last month.
That flowed from him winning the Victorian section of the award in August.
Two years earlier he had been named the best second year apprentice.
Mr Morrow said taking up a trade after completing secondary school was a step he wanted to take.
He was not keen on the prospect of another four years at a desk doing tertiary studies and was more interested in “using his hands and doing something that made him think”.
An apprenticeship at Malady’s proved an ideal fit for both parties with Mr Morrow progressing to running some larger projects in the latter stages of the apprenticeship.
