show – the star all-rounder making an unbeaten 40 to lead Yarragon to victory, and 5-99, at stumps.

Buln in box seat

Drouin (159) vs. Buln (0-19): Jackson Noonan’s season-best bowling performance has put Buln in the box-seat in their clash with Drouin, with the seamer claiming 4-41 in an impressive display.

With capable support in the form of Bryce Monahan (1-21 from 10) and Max Kelly (also 1-21), the Lyrebirds never allowed Drouin’s batsmen to settle at the crease – and their constant pressure saw wickets fall at regular intervals.

A reflection of the grinding nature of the day was the top score for Drouin – just 28 from Jonathan Bell opening up.

Simon Gardiner chimed in with 27 valuable lower-order runs to boost the total, but the Hawks were dismissed for 159 in the 67th over.

Left with 10 overs to see out the day, Jack Armour and Wilson Pollock comfortably saw off Drouin’s new-ball combinations, finishing the day at 0-19.

Kangas stymie Warriors

Western Park (172) vs. Hallora (0-14): Hallora found a way to stymie the run-scoring ways of Western Park at the weekend, and in the process found themselves entering day two as slight favourites.

Having made merry against a rag-tag Jindivick attack the week prior, the Warriors elected to bat hoping for a similarly rollicking innings, but they found the going much tougher against the likes of Malinga Surrapulige and Grant Duncan.

Surrapulige’s two wickets were invaluable – removing Wakefield for eight and Diston without scoring – while Duncan’s wily ways proved too much for the lower order as he claimed 423.

Feltham’s watchful 42 laid the foundation for the Warriors innings, and Gangodawila (52) and Sheehan (40) added crucial runs as Western Park made their way to 172 before being dismissed.

Hallora were left with five overs to face out, and safely made it to 0-14, with Sam Whibley and Grant Duncan surviving several vociferous appeals late in the day.
