Juniors hone skills in two day match

Warragul District Junior Cricket Associatio­n’s change to a 40-over per side format over two days allowed junior cricketers to hone their skills with bat and ball for extended periods.

Most sides made the transition from the fastpaced T20 format well, with most sides posting good scores.

Under 16

Western Park v Ellinbank Ellinbank ground it out in the face of some discipline­d bowling from Western Park to post a total of 105.

Jake Achilles hung about for a valuable 29 following the loss of an early wicket, while Ryan Atherton finished unbeaten on 21 to boost the total.

Nicholas Whitelaw and Jack McDonald were the multiple wicket takers for Western Park, along with Jake Websdale who wrapped up the innings despite taking some heat. Jindivick v Neerim District Sam Christie was the dominant player from the match between Jindivick and Neerim District.

He scored an unbeaten 78 to score the bulk of the Jumping Jacks’ total of 125.

Vinnie Caia took three wickets with the new ball, while Lachlan Smith and Lachlan Willis each chipped in with two wickets. Hallora v Warragul Hallora are already well on their way to victory over Warragul.

Dylan Gentile scored 24 for Warragul, but received little support as the Gulls were bowled out for 66.

Alex Henshall applied early pressure with 2/5 from four overs, while Jake Dean and Bradley Ward each chipped in with two wickets.

Chris Diston (12*) and Brayden Notman wasted (18*) little time, combining to race to 0/40 from nine overs. Garfield-Tynong v Buln Buln Garfield-Tynong have set Buln Buln a challengin­g target, posting 6/170.

Matthew Jones and Jack Tenace-Greenall each made 30, while Maxwell (24), Liam Lenders (22) and Jett Pickering (16*) saw the Titans’ top order fire.

Brendan Wall picked up two wickets for Buln Buln to help restrict the Titans late in their innings. Drouin v Longwarry Half centuries to Daniel Pullen (50) and Liam Quarrell (57) have helped Longwarry post a competitiv­e total of 5/184.

Joe Pullen chipped in with 23 opening top help the Crows make a strong start.

Bowling figures for Drouin were not available at time of going to print.

Under 14

Longwarry/Warragul v Neerim District Liam Kirkman carried his bat for 38 to help the Longwarry/Warragul combine post 124.

He received support from Tyler Best, who hit 29.

Beau Joiner (3/15) and Zane SIlvester (2/15) helped Neerim District put the match on an even keel. Garfield-Tynong v Western Park Garfield-Tynong batted out their overs against Western Park, but will still require a special effort with the ball for victory.

Kade Knibbs led the way with an unbeaten 37 as the Titans posted 8/108.

Wickets were shared for Western Park as they threw the ball around, led by Connor McCluskey (3/14) and Lane Ward (2/10). Yarragon v Buln Buln Addison Cumming (37*) and Liam SmithButte­rworth (38*) have been heralded as future stars of the Yarragon Cricket Club as they combined to put the Panthers in a strong position.

The pair combined following the loss of early wickets to see the Panthers post 3/133.

Matthew Kilmartin and Lachlan Armour kept it tight for Buln Buln to add to an earlier run out. Ellinbank v Hallora Ellinbank flexed their muscle against Hallora to pick up first innings points on the first day.

The Ellinbank bowlers were able to restrict Hallora to just 30 runs from 25 overs to set up the victory.

Tom Logan, Jonty Kennedy and William Auldist each picked up two wickets.

After losing an early wicket, Auldist (18*) and Liam Lisle (9*) saw the Bankers through to 1/40 at stumps.
