Resealing works
More than 63 kilometres of road across 29 sites will share in a package of bitumen resealing works being undertaken by Baw Baw Shire.
A tender for the package of works has been awarded to Fulton Hogan Industries at a cost of $1.485 million.
Council also agreed that a $250,000 balance in the available budget would be used for preparation work, spray sealing and annual road resurfacing works.
The bitumen program will result in the resealing and repair of failed road pavements across 29 roads within the shire. Roads included in the works program are: Athlone – Invermay Rd West; Bona Vista Bona Vista Rd and Bull Swamp Rd; Darnum – Darnum Park Rd; Drouin – Gardner and Holman Rd and Lardner Rd; Drouin South – Ringin Rd; Erica – McLelland Rd, Moore St and Old Thomson Valley Rd; Jindivick – Jackson Trk and Mason Rd; Lardner – Hamiltons Rd and Hunters Rd; Longwarry – Edgar Rd; Narracan – Narracan Connection Rd and Rogers Rd; Nayook Powellton Rd; Neerim South – Jindivick Neerim South Rd and Sheffield Rd; Thorpdale – Cooks Rd and McDonalds Trk; Trafalgar – Bullock Track Rd, Centenary Drv, Giles Rd and Yulungah Rd; Trafalgar East – Embletons Rd; Warragul South – Wrights Rd; Yarragon - Burnett St.
The sections of road vary between 72 metres and 5.3 kilometres in length.
Officers said pavement repair works would result in decreased routine maintenance demand for the roads included in the works list.
“The completion of this package of work will see a reduction in the number of complaints from road users relating to the existing condition of the road pavements worked,” the report said.
Cr Peter Kostos said the tender was a “good result” and a number of Fulton Hogan employees lived in the shire.
Cr Darren Wallace said the tender equated to 29 roads and 63.6 kilometres that would have money spent on them.
“Every money spent on roads is money well spent,” he said.
The contractor is required to notify any residents whose access will be affected by the works at least seven days beforehand.
