Liquor licence for cafe

-

Planning permission has been granted for a new restaurant and café in Longwarry to sell alcohol.

The new restaurant, in Mackey St, will be established in the premises previously occupied by Boss Hogg Pizza.

A report to Baw Baw Shire said the premises previously had approval to sell food 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Officers said the site was in the Longwarry commercial area and the proposal to enable the premises to be licenced was unlikely to cause additional loss of amenity to the area.

The hours of trading are limited to between 11am to 11pm and are considered to be low risk to the amenity of the surrounding area and the commercial area of Longwarry.

There were no objections. A car parking demand assessment was undertaken which demonstrated on street car parking was available along Mackey St at the peak times of the restaurant.

Cr Tricia Jones said Longwarry had significant population growth in recent years and the addition of a restaurant and café would have a positive impact on the town centre.

“When there is activity in the town it attracts more people and makes people happier and safer,” she said.

Cr Jessica O’Donnell said in recent times council had seen business after business coming into Longwarry. “I look forward to Longwarry prospering and becoming a vibrant community,” she said.
