First win of season for Neerim District

-

Neerim District Bowling Club got an early Christmas present last Tuesday when they won their first game for the season at home against Morwell Club.

Although Neerim had a comfortable overall lead halfway through, Morwell started to peg them back. With one end remaining on the last rink, Neerim’s lead was just two shots.

The Morwell skip’s first bowl made them one up on the end, only to have the Neerim skip get the shot back. Morwell’s second bowl went wide, allowing the Neerim skip to put her bowl in the pocket for Neerim to score a three-shot victory.

Division one: Neerim District defeated Morwell Club 62/59.

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Liz Hodge, Neville Cousins and Gerry Melling lost to B. Burridge’s team 17/23.

Scoring fluctuated early with Morwell getting a five on the third end, only for Neerim to follow up with a four. Morwell kicked away over the next three ends, but Neerim responded and trailed by just one on the ninth end and by two on the 13th end.

Morwell won the next three ends to lead by eight. Scoring was tight over the final five ends, but Morwell ran out winners by six shots.

Karren Sheers (skip), Marion Willis, Gerry Engelstad and Stephen “Fish” Halligan defeated T. Borg’s team 29/17.

Neerim scored a five on the first end and continued to dominate right up to the 12th end when they led 28/2. They had won 10 of the 12 ends.

In a complete turnaround, Neerim could only pick up one shot over the last nine ends as Morwell scored 15, including a five on the second last end.

Although Neerim ran out comfortable winners by 12 shots, the five made the overall score uncomfortably close.

Thelma Schroeder (skip), Cookie Halligan, Kay Cousins and Russell Meehan lost to J. Karleusa’s team 16/19.

Neerim were slow off the mark and were down 0/9 after four ends. A five on the fifth end got them back in the game.

Morwell slowly eased ahead and were eight shots up by the 12th end. Neerim fought hard to win seven of the last nine ends, but just fell short by three shots.
