Everyone was glad for a cool change coming through for the weekend after the gauge hit 42 degrees on Friday.

The few showers on Saturday ensured pleasant playing conditions for the field of 91 playing in the January Monthly Medal.

It was Grant McLure who lit the course up with a great round of two over par 71, playing off his mark of just nine to take out the victory.

He was two shots in advance of Dave Lawler and a shot further back to Trevor Marshman.

Scott O’Donnell had the best scratch score for B grade with an 84, whilst Glenn Whelan did best for the C grade event with a round of 88.

Nathan Lieshout returned to the club after a long absence to claim the B grade handicap event with a round of net 66.

A final score of net 69 was required to win a ball down the line.

After a brilliant previous week, Harry Matthews was once again front and centre with another winning performance. This time with 45 points on New Year’s Day.

Matthews then fronted up for Saturday’s medal and produced a net 68 to cap off a huge pre and post Christmas period. During this time, Matthews has lost two shots off his handicap. Fair play to Harry, well done.

Tony Power took out the B grade event on New Year’s Day with a score of 38 points, playing off his mark of 24, on a count-back from Ian Kirk, playing off his mark of 20.

A large field of 76 came out for a game on Thursday, which was played in mild and warm conditions. Peter Black had a good week, winning the A grade event with a score of 41 points, playing off his mark of 12. This win went with his A grade runners-up effort on New Year’s Day where he also scored the 41 points.

Grant McKay, having a period of good consistent golf, finished second to Black with a score of 40 points.

Joe Tonso won the B grade event with a total of 40 points, playing off his handicap of 15, whilst Russell Kerr won the C grade event with a score of 41 points on a count-back from Andy Armanasco.

A final score of 37 points was needed to get a ball down the line.
