Food gardens showcased

-

A celebration of food gardeners and local artists will be had across West Gippsland this weekend.

After a very successful first “Creative Harvest” in January 2018, Baw Baw Sustainability Network is presenting a second season of open, sustainable, foodproducing gardens, together with local artists – hence the title, “Creative Harvest”.

Drawing from initial plans to combine sustainable, food-producing gardens with art - activities prominent in our region – this year will see 13 wonderful host gardeners open their properties to the public on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, with each garden also exhibiting works from widely-varying artists.

What is different about this year’s event is the variety of gardens involved – from pocket-sized and jam-packed town gardens, to open expanses of fields showing a range of food garden production practices.

Artists and their works include textiles, painting, street photography, bead work and wearable art, mosaics, sculpture, linocut, felting and macrame.

In addition, more properties are on offer. They are located from Mirboo North to Willow Grove and Noojee, and from Modella to Trafalgar.

Simply drive yourself or join a bus tour for $60 including lunch.

Saturday’s bus tour will travel to Modella, Yarragon, Willow Grove, Hill End, Piedmont (near Noojee) and Warragul. Sunday’s bus tour will take in Trafalgar South, Childers, Mirboo North, Trafalgar and Warragul.

If driving yourself, entry is $5 per garden or $20 for five gardens. Payment can be made at any garden.
