Visit Tandara Limousins during Beef Week
Steve and Alison Crestani, who own and operate Tandara Limousin Stud, will be opening their gates again this year as part of the annual Stock and Land Beef Week Open Days.
The couple, who have been breeding Limousin cattle since 2002, are keen to promote the breed which is renowned for its muscle and high carcase yield.
As well as being a seed-stock herd, Tandara is a stud operation with a commercial focus aimed at supplying bulls for producing early-maturing progeny ideal for the vealer market. Many of their commercial clients who use Tandara bulls frequently top the market with their vealers or sell direct, with a high percentage of calves meeting processors’ criteria.
They encourage beef producers to try using a Limousin bull to see the difference for themselves. LimousinX calves lead the way at the vealer market, and with their feed efficiency, high yield and dressing percentage, also perform well in the feed-lot. They aim to produce and supply the best bulls to sire those calves.
Their breeding program focuses on genetics to support moderate birth weights for ease of calving, structural soundness and strong growth rates. Another trait high on the priority list is docility. They know the importance of having easy-to-manage cattle and temperament has always been something they are continually improving by using AI sires as well as their bulls with good docility, and selectively culling when necessary.
All are welcome to visit and view their line of quality bulls, and females for sale for anyone wishing to start or expand their own herd.
Unlike at an auction sale, Beef week is a great opportunity for you to view cattle at the Tandara farm in a no-pressure and relaxed environment.
Steve and Alison welcome visitors to their Stud in Wilson Road, Neerim from 9am on Monday, January 28. Refreshments and a light ‘Australia Day’ lunch will be served.
